FREE 6 weeks of chair-based yoga classes

Starting Tuesday 1 March 2022, 6 weeks of free yoga online, in partnership with Wales Neurological Alliance. These classes are the same as my Accessible Yoga classes but online so that you can join from the comfort of your own home, for free!

This class is for anyone with a neurological condition and their support networks who live in Wales. Designed to fit your body in all its unique glory, this practice is for anyone who wants to ease back into movement, people recovering from injury, living with chronic pain, illness and/or disability. Suitable for any ability level.

Next class block: 16 April 2022 for 6 weeks

The pace of the class will be slow and accommodating, as I guide you through your practice. There will be a focus on mobility, postural ease and the breath. We will use props (such as chairs, blocks, cushions) to support your body and satisfy your needs so that your breath can flow and you can participate in the movements with ease. Caregivers are welcome to participate.

Who are these classes for?

This class is for anyone with a neurological condition and their support networks who live in Wales. Unfortunately spaces are not available to people living outside of Wales.

This class is designed for everyone to enjoy the benefits of yoga. It is ideal for anyone who struggle to get up and down from the floor e.g. due to knee or hip injuries, arthritis, etc, . Anyone looking to return to yoga after a prolonged break, people who have always wanted to try yoga but aren't sure where to start, or as part of a recovery plan, but it is also enjoyable for yoga students of any level looking for a gentle, stress-relieving class

What is the class like?

A slow flow class, incorporating movement, breath and meditation, with variations and modifications to suit. Most or all of the class can be done from seated. You will utilise the chair as a seat or support to make poses accessible, and to find new ways to stretch or strengthen the body. All postures, including ones traditionally done seated or standing, can be adapted even if you cannot stand or cannot come down to the floor. The focus will be on combining the breath with movement. We will start with a warm-up, move on to a bit of a flow, maybe play with some balancing postures (which can be done seated or standing) and finish with a rest pose. Classes can also include breathwork and meditation.

How do I book?

Book via Eventbrite. You will need to book each session individually, as a different Zoom link is used every time.

Although there are tremendous benefits to overall health and wellbeing, yoga can be physically challenging and carries with it risks that cannot entirely be eliminated. These include the risk of personal injury, or the exacerbation of existing injuries or conditions, or damage to property around you during your participation.

Please note that although you may appear on video link during the live stream of the class, the instructor may not be able to see you clearly or instruct you individually as is possible in a face to face teaching scenario. This class will not be recorded.

Participant Rules:

  • You will require a sturdy chair, ideally with no arms, for seated postures but any chair can work.

  • Ensure that there is enough space to safely carry out the exercises without hitting items around you. If you have yoga blocks/bolsters/straps, you can use these, or have some cushions and/or thick books to hand to use instead but they are not required.

  • You must act responsibility and sensibly at all times.

  • Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely.

  • The instructor is not qualified to express an opinion that you are fit to safely participate in yoga classes. You must obtain professional or specialist advice from your doctor before participating if you are in any doubt.

  • For the relaxation at the end, you may want to have cushions and/or a blanket.

  • Have a drink nearby (and snacks, if required for medical reasons).

  • When taking part in any Accessible Online Yoga session you do so at your own risk.

  • Please complete a health questionnaire before attending online here or email chrissie@yogablisscardiff.co.uk to inform me of any existing conditions or injuries prior to the class.

  • Listen to your own body.

  • Follow any safety instructions or suitable modifications or adjustments to the exercise as instructed.

  • Amend postures to suit you (Chrissie can advise).

  • Take a rest whenever needed.
